Amalie, who had just recently finished unpacking her things, readjusting them, and perfecting the area around her bed in general, was glad to be done. This was her home for the next nine months, and she was going to make it look like it.
With some small corner of her mind, she noticed that her cat Matty was gone. He wasn't actually a magic cat, he'd been her cat back at her own house in London until she was invited here. 'Cat' being on the list of acceptable pets to bring, and her parents not being all that hot on having to take care of their daughter's cat for the whole seven years she was at magic boarding school, she just took him with her.
The Manx had managed to wander off several times in the three-hour space Amalie'd been here, so she figured he could find his way back by himself. It would be pretty useless to try and find him, anyway, in a castle like this. She'd be lost before she took five steps off the path she took from the Great Hall to here. In fact, the only reason she got to the Softfog Common Room right was the fact that some prefect she didn't know had led the first years here, and told them the password (Flame freezing).
Amalie checked her watch. It was 5:30, so she'd need to brave the trick stairs, whispering paintings, and moving armor again on the walk to the Great Hall for dinner in half an hour.
She sighed, dropping into one of the marsh-green armchairs in front of the fire. She wouldn't be the first to lose her way in the school on her first day, she was sure of that. But, she thought remorsefully, as she pulled out a largeish aqua green book titled Aguamenti, that doesn't mean I have to look forward to it.
